On behalf of the International Sea Turtle Society, we extend a very warm welcome and invite to the 40th International Sea Turtle Symposium (ISTS40), a four-day global event that will be hosted entirely online between the 25th and 28th March 2022.

ISTS40 should have been held in Perth, Australia, but due to the ongoing global pandemic and international travel restrictions/border closure, it will now be the first online, live-virtual conference hosted by the International Sea Turtle Society.

Our aim is to provide an online environment that brings together sea turtle biologists, environmental practitioners, conservationists, Indigenous groups, researchers, academics, and advocates to share knowledge, build capacity, network and collaborate and ultimately, to promote the protection and conservation of sea turtles.

ISTS40 will use a highly interactive gather.town virtual environment. With the exception of keynote speeches, all presentations will be pre-recorded and streamed via live sessions held throughout each day of ISTS40. For the posters, there will be virtual boards and viewing sessions. To involve as many participants around the globe, the sessions have been scheduled to suit as many time zones as possible. Don’t worry though, if you miss a session or need to catch-up, all content will be provided within the virtual environment for viewing at any time for up to 3-4 weeks after the symposium. Test out a virtual conference space here or view this introductory video.

We wish to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land upon which we live and work, the Whadjuk Noongar (Perth) and recognise their continuing connection to the land, waters, and sky, and acknowledge the traditional knowledge they bring to our world of turtles.
